Seeds

The seeds are a most important basis for the production of our high tech containerised forest seedlings. In each seed important genetic predictions are stored. They have a huge influence on the future growth and wood quality. The proper provenance guarantees the best genetic prediction according to the state of the art.

We are very much interested to supply our customers with the proper provenances. This is part of our LIECO guaranteed provenance.

LIECO - Guaranteed provenance

The use of forest seedlings with a guaranteed provenance ist he base for a sustainable, ecological and economic forestry. The genetic predisposition of the seeds and saleable seedlings are only visible after years of growth. Site adapted forest seedlings provide you with a higher wood quality, stability and vitality.

LIECO keeps to the standards of the Act of Forest Reproductive Material (BGBl.I Nr. 110/2002; www.bundesamt-wald.at) in Austria as well as to the different Acts of Forest Reproductive Material in other countries.

LIECO is also a member of FfV (https://ffv-zertifikat.com/) and produces according to the standards of ZüF (www.zuef-forstpflanzen.de).

Seeding and Container trays

The seeds of high quality and guaranteed provenances are automatically put into the LIECO container trays. The trays are filled with special substrate, which is a determining factor for the root development and constant quality.

After seeding the container trays are automatically transported on a conveyor belt and placed on our air pruning frames. Then they are taken into the greenhouses by fork lifts.

LIECO has designed different types of container trays:

• The L67-Container trays for seeding. After germination and growth the seedlings are transplanted into L15 trays.
• The L15-Container trays are available in different designs according to the various root demands of the different tree species.
  "L15 red" - are best for pine, larch and douglas fir
  "L15 blue" - are best for fir and broad leaves

Propagation method

Greenhouse germination
After seeding the L67 container trays are taken to the greenhouses. There the germination takes place under best conditions (appr. 4-8 weeks). Therefore LIECO is able to reach high yields. LIECO utilises the valuable seeds in the best way and keeps a high genetic diversity.

Greenfield growth
The greenfield growth is a fundamental part of the LIECO forest seedlings production. Kalwang nursery has 19 greenfields. St. Marin nursery is a bit bigger and has 24 greenfields, thereof 1 „Black-out system“ (long night treatment for a faster lignification).

1. After germination in the greenhouse the seedlings are taken to the greenfields.
2. Depending on the tree species and provenance the greenfield growth until a saleable seedling takes up to 2,5 years; Transplanting into the L15 container tray is done after 1 to 1,5 years.
3. The greenfields and greenhouses are equipped with a computer controlled irrigation system. This guarantees an even water supply for all seedlings.
4. Due to this technology and our optimised liquid fertiliser we can secure a near to nature nutrition.
5. In winter the seedlings are covered with snow – natural or technically produced. This is the best protection for the small seedlings.

Transplanting
Beim LIECO L15 Verfahren werden die Pflanzen nach ca. 1 bis 1,5 Jahren von den Kleincontainern L67 (Volumen ca. 50 ccm) in die L15 Container (311 bzw. 390 ccm) umgetopft. Durch dieses Topf in Topf Verfahren kann sich ein optimales Spross-Wurzel-Verhältnis entwickeln. Bei den Tannen und Zirben kaufen wir unverschulte zweijährige Sämlinge zu und topfen diese nacktwurzelig ein. Dazu haben wir unser eigenes Verfahren entwickelt. Diese wachsen dann noch 2 Jahre in unseren Containern weiter und bilden ein nicht unterschnittenes Wurzelsystem aus. Grund dafür ist die schlechte Keimfähigkeit dieser Baumarten. Wir sind auch da bemüht die Keimfähigkeiten zu steigern um in Zukunft auf das Topf in Topf Verfahren umsteigen zu können.

Generell gilt höchstes Augenmerk auf die sensiblen Wurzeln zu legen, damit sich auch später im Wald ein optimales Wurzelsystem entwickelt. Passieren hier Fehler durch ungeschultes Personal und nicht ausgereifte Technologie sind irreparable Schäden programmiert.

Beim LIECO L40 Verfahren gibt es keine Vertopfung, weshalb sich dieses Verfahren auch nur für kleinere Pflanzen gut eignet (z.B. für Lohnanzucht von Lärchen und Fichten).

Auslieferung - Selbstabholung

Vor jeder Lieferung werden die Forstpflanzen von unserem Fachpersonal einer abschließenden Qualitätskontrolle unterzogen.

Geliefert wird vorzugsweise in Containern zum Schutz vor Austrocknung und Verletzung der Wurzeln.
Zustellung ab Forstgarten erfolgt in der Regel innerhalb 24 Stunden nach Verladung mit LKW oder Bahn. Die Frachtkosten geben wir Ihnen auf Anfrage gerne bekannt.

Gut abgestimmte Liefertermine ermöglichen Ihnen, den Abladeplatz und Ihr Team entsprechend vorzubereiten.

Bei Selbstabholung in unseren Forstgärten ersuchen wir Sie um Terminvereinbarung. Schützen Sie die Pflanzen vor direktem Fahrtwind, um das Austrocknen zu verhindern. Transportieren Sie die Pflanzen bis zum Aufforstungsort im Container. Laderaumkapazität: 1 m² = ca. 200 Stk. Pflanzen.
